We thought we'd share some of the mundane aspects of our trip in case you are interested. We are infinitely grateful to have this apartment. There is plenty of room and it's great to be able to cook and deal with the jet lag when we get up at 3am in the morning.
Important things we've learned or had to deal with:
- Peanut butter is not a common staple in Russia, thus PB&J is not on the menu.
- Ketchup is. We haven't figured what we can make yet that requires it though.
- Fish is very popular here. Dan has yet to make it, but suspect we will have often while we are here.
- The milk tastes a little different. Kayla hasn't had a glass of milk since we left.
- They do have cereal with Ice Age characters. Yes, Kayla does have milk with her cereal.
- We are mentally dealing with fact that we have only one box left of the Kraft M&C.
- The ice cream is awesome!!!
- The frozen pizza's pretty good but different than what you'd get in the states.
- It's really hard to know what type of bread you're buying without being able to read Russian.
- Subways are a great way to get around quickly. It can get a little ripe if there are too many people in the train.
- People always take their shoes off when they go inside. It is true, our feet bring in a lot of dirt here.
- Walking is the best way to get around. We have to really watch the traffic signs - cars are everywhere.
- Kayla likes cartoons whether they are in English or Russian.
In true State Fair fashion - Dan should make fish on a stick. Odd that the ice cream is good but the milk is 'different.' Hugs to Kayla and Nick. ks
